The Trap performs exceptionally well in tidal reaches of river systems, preventing captured litter from escaping once the tides turns. Our Litter Trap operates silently and without any mechanical assistance to capture floating litter for easy removal from waterways. This Litter Trap operates 24/7, 365 days a year and is a proven cost effective solution to a growing litter problem. The Litter Trap is available in different sizes to suit individual needs. In addition, the Litter Trap can be made semi-permanent by attaching it to shore moorings which can be disconnected if the unit needs to be moved to a new location. The Trap can also be fitted with Mycelx® oil extraction filtration material and used for both litter and debris collection as well as hydrocarbon contaminated runoff. HOW IT WORKS The Litter Trap is anchored in place by using galvanized chains or cables attached to ground anchors or fitted to rider poles for canal installations. Outspread collection booms direct floating litter through a one-way mesh gate into the trap where it is retained for removal. Litter is not allowed to flow out of the trap by a system of counterweights and paddles that close the entry gate when the water flow ceases or there is a change in direction of the flow due to tide or wind. A side skirt beneath the water line prevents debris from escaping from under the main floats. INSTALLATION The Bandalong systems can be tailored to suit the individual requirements of your waterways management plan. Installation is quick and easy. Most components are pre-assembled offsite and installation can usually be completed within a day. Substantial earthworks, construction and reinstatement works are not required therefore disruption to services is avoided. The cables and anchors required to hold the system in place can be located below ground. REMOVING LITTER FROM THE TRAPS The Litter Trap must be cleaned out on a regular basis - either by doing a visual check to see if the Trap needs to be cleaned out or by establishing a litter removal schedule.
