What is MYCELX?
MYCELX® is a patented technology that is used to infuse all Mycelx Technologies water filtering media products. Hydrocarbons instantly bond to Mycelx filter media and are permanently removed from the waste stream. This infused filter is part of the Storm-PURE™ Catch Basin insert that removes 99.9% of hydrocarbons and other pollutants from stormwater runoff.
Mycelx infused filters also remove the full range of organic hydrocarbon compounds refined from crude oil including highly toxic BTEX chemicals, as well as the suspected carcinogens PCBs, chlorinated solvents, pesticides & biocides, and organically bound metals from wastewater.
How Does The MYCELX Filter Work?
The treated MYCELX filter media permanently bonds with hydrocarbon pollutants on contact removing 99.9% from the water in a single pass with no desorbtion. MYCELX is effective on both semi-soluble or insoluble pollutants preventing the captured contaminant from separating, emulsifying, or releasing once contained. It also removes pesticides, metals and other construction chemicals.
How Much Water Can The MYCELX Filter Treat ?
The Mycelx filter media does not affect the amount of water passing through them. Only the filter media becomes saturated with the pollutants in the water. This unique filter media has the ability to maintain high flow rates while removing pollutants. When fully saturated the filters do not increase head pressure or plug up. The filter will not be able to remove any further contamination from the water and will simply allow it to bypass.
Is MYCELX Toxic?
No. It is a non-hazardous/non-toxic material that will not dissolve or migrate in water. It has been declared compliant to section 300.915 of the NCP by the EPA.
The technology is used throughout the world in the marine, industrial, and environmental industries and in stormwater runoff systems to prevent damaging pollutants from entering waterways. MYCELX Technologies has been issued 12 composition and application patents for removal of organic pollutants from waste streams.
How Do You Dispose Of The MYCELX Filter?
Dispose of the used filter according to local, state and federal regulations. Incineration maybe used due to their low water absorption, low ash content and high BTU value, as long as it is a non-hazardous oil or flammable fluids are absorbed.
Mycelx® Technologies Corporation is the exclusive developer of patented Mycelx technology. Mycelx was originally developed for oil spill remediation in 1995. |
