A Cleaner Creek: Brookhaven’s Bandalong 320 Success Story
In the heart of Brookhaven, Georgia, the North Fork Peachtree Creek now has a powerful new ally in the fight against litter: the Bandalong 320 Litter Trap. Installed by Storm Water Systems in partnership with the City of Brookhaven, Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, and Microsoft’s Climate Innovation Fund, this floating litter trap has already made a measurable difference.
Within just one month of installation, the Bandalong captured over 175 pounds of trash and recyclables. By the end of the summer, that total exceeded 400 pounds—the equivalent of about 12 shopping carts of debris that would have otherwise flowed downstream toward the Chattahoochee River.
The Bandalong Litter Trap operates 24/7 without motors or electricity, using the natural current of the creek to guide floating litter into its collection area. Once contained, the debris is safely removed by Chattahoochee Riverkeeper’s cleanup crews during routine maintenance.
This project demonstrates how public-private partnerships can deliver real environmental impact. With funding support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Microsoft’s sustainability initiatives, Brookhaven’s trap represents a scalable solution to a growing challenge—urban litter and stormwater pollution.
“Every piece of trash captured here is one less item reaching our rivers and oceans,” said representatives from Chattahoochee Riverkeeper. “This system keeps our waterways cleaner and helps us educate the community about the importance of stormwater management.”
The installation also highlights the city’s broader commitment to sustainability. Through the Peachtree Creek Greenway, Brookhaven is transforming its waterways into community assets—places where residents can walk, bike, and connect with nature while supporting a cleaner environment.
The Bandalong 320 at North Fork Peachtree Creek is more than a device—it’s proof that innovation, collaboration, and care for our environment can make a visible difference.
